Four people have been killed in a road crash. The Federal Road Safety Corps confirmed that an auto crash involving three trucks occurred at the annual Eggon carnival in Nasarawa-Eggon LGA, Nasarawa.

Yahaya Sabo-Adikwu, FRSC’s sector commander, said the accident happened on Sunday.

According to the sector commander,  the incident occurred when one of the trucks rammed into a procession from the palace of Aren Eggon, paramount ruler of the Eggon people, to Eggon Community Secondary School, venue of the annual carnival.

He said that apart from the four deaths,  several other people were injured. According to the FRSC official, they are receiving treatment at the Nasarawa-Eggon General Hospital.

Mr Sabo, who attributed the fatal crash to reckless driving, said the remains of the deceased had been deposited at the Federal University of Lafia Teaching Hospital, Lafia.

Meanwhile, a witness stated that the truck lost control and rammed into the carnival procession near the Eggon Community Secondary School, venue of the carnival, while two other trucks rammed into the first truck from the rear.

The witness said the truck driver was reckless and called for a thorough investigation into the matter.

He said drivers, especially those driving articulated vehicles, need to undergo drug tests before being allowed to drive on Nigerian roads.
