Former Kano Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has stated that he would consider switching allegiance to another political party if he is offered either the presidential or vice-presidential ticket for the 2027 general election.
Mr Kwankwaso stated this on Saturday while addressing his supporters from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), who paid a visit to his residence in Kano.
“At the national level, talks are ongoing to join an opposition coalition. We told them that we agree to go with you, but what will you give me. Appointments? How many? Which one among them will fit me, which I will accept?,” Mr Kwankwaso stated.
“I have made it categorically clear that I will only join a coalition that considers me as either the presidential or vice-presidential candidate.”
The ex-Kano governor stated that his supporters across the country would only accept a defection if it certainly offers him either of the two top positions in the next general election.
Mr Kwankwaso revealed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) had reached out to him to join the ruling party, but he declined the offer after they failed to present “a concrete offer” that would benefit him and his supporters.
