The police command in Lagos on Monday said it has confirmed the identity of officers accused of extorting N3.3 million from a couple in Lagos, and has consequently detained them.

The command identified the officers, following a social media post. According to the report, police officers attached to the Area H command in Ogudu, Lagos, were alleged to have extorted $2,000 from a couple they wrongfully arrested on December 18, 2025.

It was further reported that N2.2 million was returned to the victims after the incident gained public attention on X, while the officers allegedly appealed to retain about N1.1 million, claiming the money had already been shared among several colleagues.

Confirming the development on Monday, the command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the officers involved had been brought to the command’s headquarters for investigation.

The police commissioner, Olohundare Jimoh, had directed the deputy commissioner of police in charge of administration to oversee the probe.

The command stated that the officers had given their statements as part of the ongoing investigation and that the command was awaiting the complainant to come forward and present his side of the story.
