The Donald Trump administration has delivered heavy artillery to the Nigerian government to fight terrorists and other threats to the country’s national security.

The U.S. Africa Command announced the delivery of “critical military supplies” to its Nigerian counterpart in a statement on Tuesday, attaching a picture of wrapped large packages that didn’t explicitly show what the supplies were.

“U.S. forces delivered critical military supplies to our Nigerian partners in Abuja,” U.S. Africa Command said on Tuesday. “This delivery supports Nigeria’s ongoing operations and emphasises our shared security partnership.”

Last year, Mr Trump vowed to deploy troops to Nigeria to combat terrorists allegedly targeting Christians in the region shortly after redesignating Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) over festering violent attacks.

The President Bola Tinubu administration debunked the claim, arguing that both Christians and Muslims were victims of the country’s security challenges.

Mr Trump, however, on Christmas Day sent U.S. forces to bomb some parts of Sokoto State in a “symbolic” operation to send a warning to the terrorists on what the U.S. leader called a “Christmas present.”

Despite imposing partial travel restrictions on Nigerians seeking entry into the United States of America, Mr Trump has said Washington would continue to assist Nigeria to combat terrorism.
