A youth leader in Adamawa State has bagged a two-year sentence as punishment for insulting President Muhamadu Buhari and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha.

A report shared Monday evening by a dependable Yola-based blogspot, News Platform, indicated that the Chief Magistrate Court 4 sitting in Yola, earlier on Monday morning sentenced Ikamu Kato to two years for the charge against him.

Ikamu Kato had been arraigned last Friday before the court on the charge that he rained abuses on the president and the SGF using his Facebook account.

According to the report on the Monday court process, Chief Magistrate Dimas Elishama, convicted Kato who is the Youth Leader of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Hong Local Government Area, to one year in prison for use of insulting or abusive words.

The sentence, however, came with an option of N25,000 fine.

The court also convicted and sentenced the defendant to one year in prison, also with N25,000 fine option, “for inciting public disturbance.”

The court clarified that the sentences are to run concurrently.

The presiding judge indicated that the punishment was mild because the court considered the plea of the convict to temper justice with mercy.

The judge added that Kato’s conduct during the trial was civil and that he apologized, but that he could not be left to go off entirely free.

The youth leader, 41 years old and a native of Wuro Dole in Hong LGA, had described Buhari and Boss Mustapha as “useless human beings” in a video he posted that went viral on July 10, 2021.

He was later investigated and arraigned before the court by the Department of State Security (DSS) through the office of the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.
