The Labour Party chair in Rivers, Hilda Dokubo, has appealed for peace and stability, urging politicians to place the state’s interest above personal ambitions.

Ms Dokubo spoke in an interview after an INEC stakeholders’ meeting in Port Harcourt on Thursday. She described the recent impeachment notice against Governor Siminalayi Fubara as a distraction to governance and development.

According to her, Rivers should focus on rebuilding after six months of emergency rule marked by instability, hardship, and limited development.

“The only person who serves a governor an impeachment notice is someone who believes he is above the state.
“I am disturbed and disappointed because Rivers is being dragged back into turmoil just as it is emerging from months of instability,” she said.

Ms Dokubo urged political leaders and stakeholders to stop creating distractions and focus on adding value to the lives of Rivers people.

“This is our only home. If there is no peace here, we cannot sleep, work, or keep our children safe. Nobody wants that,” she said.

She commended four assembly members who reconsidered their stance on the impeachment notice, urging others to follow their example.

Ms Dokubo called for a lasting solution, warning against “political solutions” that only create deeper problems for the state.

“Let us live in peace. Let Governor Fubara do his work and complete it, now that we are beginning to see governance,” she said.
