The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has appointed the Alara of Ilara, Oba Olufolarin Ogunsanwo, as the sixth Chancellor of the Lagos State University (LASU).

This is contained in a statement issued by the Registrar and Secretary to the Council, LASU, Emmanuel Fanu, on Sunday in Lagos.

Mr Fanu said the appointment was a single tenure or five years.

He said Mr Sanwo-Olu, who is also visitor to the institution, made the appointment in pursuant to the provisions of the LASU Law 2004.

He stated, “The appointment is made pursuant to the provisions of the LASU Law 2004, as amended, Chapter L69, Volume 7, Schedule 1, which empowers the visitor to appoint the chancellor of the university. His majesty’s appointment is for a single term of five years, effective from February 13 and it is renewable once. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, warmly congratulate the new chancellor on this distinguished appointment. She looks forward to his impactful leadership in advancing the vision and mission of LASU.’’

He noted that the appointment followed the completion of the tenure of Prof. Gbolahan Elias, who served meritoriously as the fifth chancellor of the institution.

He added, “The Lagos State Government and the entire university community appreciates his contributions to the school and the dignity with which he represented the institution throughout his tenure.’’
