Iran state-owned and other local media on Sunday confirmed that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has been killed in a U.S.-Israel attack on Saturday.

Iran’s Fars and Tasnim news agencies both confirmed that the Iranian Supreme Leader was killed in his office on Saturday.

A 40-day mourning period has been declared for the leader, who reigned over Iran for over three decades. Mr Khamenei was killed in his office after it was hit by missiles on Saturday.

The 86-year-old late Supreme Leader of Iran assumed power in the Islamic Republic after the death of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in 1989.

American President Donald Trump had said Mr Khamenei was dead after the attack on his office.

Mr Khamenei’s death, Mr Trump said in a post on Truth Social on Saturday, “is not only Justice for the people of Iran, but for all Great Americans, and those people from many Countries throughout the World, that have been killed or mutilated by Khamenei and his gang of bloodthirsty THUGS.”

The American president also suggested that U.S. forces will continue clearing out Iran nuclear sites for the next few days.
