Former Labour Party (LP) chieftain Valentine Ozigbo has berated his former political ally, Peter Obi, for “not galvanising” the party into a formidable opposition.

Mr Ozigbo said in an interview with SYMFONY YouTube TV on Thursday that he is better with politically serious people in the All Progressives Congress (APC) than associating with unserious politicians.

“I was hoping the Labour Party was going to be the alternative, but what I went through in the Labour Party showed me that they were even worse than the parties we are criticising.

“Some of the people who were in leadership, including Peter Obi, failed that test of leadership because he couldn’t galvanise the Labour Party. That’s why the losses in different states,” Mr Ozigbo said.

Mr Ozigbo, who left the LP in February last year, said he dumped the party for the ruling APC because “in my own case, I was literally sacrificed.”

“The only person Soludo was scared of was me. The only person that could have led Labour to win was me. Congress was held, and everybody who was on my side was thrown under the bus in the congress of the Labour Party in Anambra State. I complained. I wrote petitions.

“When I saw what was going on. It didn’t make sense. I started wondering, are we serious? Come on, I don’t want to waste my time with unserious people.

“Even though I’m not proud of what the APC has done. But some of us are in the APC to tell the leadership to do things better. Let’s earn the trust of people. Let’s conduct ourselves better. I’m better of being there. At least I’m with serious people. Not with unserious people,” the politician said.

Yunusa Tanko, who doubles as spokesperson for Mr Obi and coordinator of the Obidient Movement, did not respond to Peoples Gazette’s requests for comments.

Amid a leadership tussle rocking the Labour Party, Mr Obi announced on the last day of 2025 that he was joining the African Democratic Congress coalition.
