WASHINGTON
US President Donald Trump on Saturday criticized the UK over reports that it is considering sending two aircraft carriers to the Middle East, saying the move would come too late to assist the US.
Writing on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump suggested that Washington no longer requires British military support and took aim at the timing of the potential deployment.
“The United Kingdom, our once Great Ally, maybe the Greatest of them all, is finally giving serious thought to sending two aircraft carriers to the Middle East,” Trump wrote.
“That’s OK, Prime Minister (Keir) Starmer, we don’t need them any longer — But we will remember. We don’t need people that join Wars after we’ve already won!” he added.
The US and the UK have long maintained one of the world’s closest military alliances, frequently cooperating on security operations and strategic deployments.
Trump’s remarks come amid heightened tensions and military activity across the Middle East.
Regional tensions have escalated since the US and Israel launched a large-scale attack on Iran on Feb. 28, killing more than 1,300 people, including Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, over 150 schoolgirls, and senior military officials.
Iran has retaliated with sweeping barrages of its own that have targeted US bases, diplomatic facilities, and military personnel across the region, as well as multiple Israeli cities.
