The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has congratulated former Abia governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, following his appointment as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Spain by Bola Tinubu.
Otti described the appointment as a call to national service and urged the former governor to represent the country with distinction.
In a statement issued on Monday in Umuahia by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, the Abia governor said the new diplomatic role presents an important opportunity for Ikpeazu to contribute to Nigeria’s global engagement.
According to the statement, the governor noted that the appointment would enable the former governor to deepen Nigeria’s relationship with Spain while also advancing the interests of Nigerians living in the European country.
He said the role offers a new platform for public service beyond the state level.
Otti stated that the diplomatic posting is an “opportunity for Ikpeazu to serve the country at the diplomatic level while protecting the interests of Nigerians in Spain.”
The governor also thanked President Tinubu for considering the former Abia governor for the position.
He expressed hope that the appointment would strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic presence in Europe and further promote cooperation between the two countries.
Otti further urged the Federal Government to provide adequate support and resources for Ikpeazu and other newly appointed ambassadors so they can effectively carry out their duties.
He said strong institutional backing would help the envoys succeed in representing Nigeria’s interests abroad.
The governor also wished the former Abia leader success in the new assignment, expressing confidence that he would bring his experience in governance to bear in the diplomatic role.
