The magistrate’s court in Jos on Monday sentenced a 20-year-old unemployed man, John Bawa, to two years’ imprisonment for stealing and insulting his mother.

The magistrate, Irene Pati, sentenced Mr Bawa following his guilty plea.

The magistrate, however, gave Mr Bawa an option of a fine of N30,000 for stealing and N50,000 for insulting his mother.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Daniel Lengman, told the court that the complainant, Mr Lami, reported the case to the Police Monitoring Unit on February 12.

Mr Lengman told the court that Mr Bawa stole N100,000 and some cooking pots and sold them as scrap.

The police said that when the complainant tried to correct him, he insulted her.

He said the offence contravened the Plateau Penal Code Law.
