This sermon, inspired by the teachings of Dr. Elvis Enyioko, President of The Good Lord Thanksgiving Ministry International (TGLTMI), explores the divine partnership between human effort and God’s supernatural empowerment.
SUNDAY SERMON – DIVINE PARTNERSHIP: MOVING FROM EMPTY HANDS TO OVERFLOWING HARVEST
I. Exposition: What It Means for God to Bless the Works of Your Hands
To have God “bless the work of your hands” is to experience a supernatural increase and divine establishment of your physical and mental efforts.
Biblical Meaning: It is a covenant promise (Deuteronomy 28:12) where God opens the “heavens, the storehouse of His bounty,” to send rain on your endeavors at the right season. It means your labor will not be in vain, and your efforts will produce “fruit that lasts” for His glory.
Secular Meaning: In a practical sense, it refers to achieving extraordinary success, favor, and sustainability in one’s career, business, or craft. It is the “X-factor” where your output far exceeds your input because of a unique grace or “touch” on what you do.
II. The Creation of Wealth: Biblical and Secular Perspectives
Wealth is not merely “found”; it is created through intentionality and stewardship.
How Wealth is Created:
Biblical: Wealth is produced by exercising the “power to get wealth” that God gives (Deuteronomy 8:18) through diligence, wisdom, and obedience to covenant principles like tithing and giving.
Secular: Wealth is created by providing value—solving problems for others through products, services, or innovations that people are willing to pay for.
Examples:
Agricultural Innovation: Moving from “foot pumps” (bare survival) to “land flowing with abundance” by utilizing better tools and God’s “rain” (favorable conditions).
Knowledge & Skills: Converting specialized knowledge or a unique skill (like Joseph’s dream interpretation) into a high-value service that saves nations.
III. The Divine Rule: No Work, No Food
Can God bless a person who refuses to work but expects miraculous provision? No.
The Bible is explicit: “If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat” (2 Thessalonians 3:10).
The Condition: God blesses the work of your hands, not the idleness of your hands.
The Miraculous: Even the Israelites in the wilderness had to go out and gather the manna God provided; it didn’t just fall into their mouths while they slept.
The Verdict: Expecting food without effort is not “faith”; it is disobedience and a misunderstanding of God’s character as a worker.
IV. What It Means to Be “Blessed by God”
To be blessed by God is to have the favor of heaven resting on your life, providing you with a sense of peace, purpose, and prosperity that “adds no trouble to it” (Proverbs 10:22). It is not just about money, but about having God’s presence ensure your success regardless of your location or position.
V. Examples of God’s Blessing in Action
Category Example Why They Were Blessed
Biblical (Individual) Joseph: He was diligent and faithful even in prison; God’s presence made everything he touched prosper.
Biblical (Individual) Abraham: He obeyed God’s call and worked hard with his flocks; God made him extremely rich in silver, gold, and livestock.
Secular (Individual) Phil Robertson: As a man of faith, he attributes his business success to God’s favor on his hard work and commitment to biblical values.
Religious (Organization) TGLTMI: Under Dr. Elvis Enyioko, this ministry flourishes because it stays committed to its mission of gratitude, outreach, and empowering communities.
VI. Action Points
Identify Your “Work”: Find a skill, a trade, or a business to engage in. God cannot multiply zero.
Commit Your Efforts to God: Dedicate your job or business to Him daily, asking for His “divine touch”.
Diligence Over Laziness: Stop planning and start doing. Take the first step today, however small.
Practice Gratitude: As a cornerstone of TGLTMI, a thankful heart attracts more of God’s presence and provision.
Conclusion
God’s promise is sure: He will bless the works of your hands. But your hands must be busy for the blessing to have a “landing strip.” When you pair your best human effort with God’s supernatural favor, you move from a life of struggle to a life of abundance and impact.
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the gift of work and the power to create wealth. Today, we repent of all laziness and idleness. We lift our hands to You and ask that You would anoint them. Whatever we touch from this day forward, let it increase and multiply. Establish the work of our hands and let Your favor rest upon us, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
