The Niger State Police Command said Seyi Simion, a 300-level student of Federal University of Education, Kontagora, was stabbed to death by his colleague during a school party.
The 25-year-old was stabbed on Sunday during a freshers’ night party organised by the students’ union of the school.
A Facebook user, Usman Alfa, posted the news of the student’s death on Sunday, stating that the deceased was rushed to the Kontagora General Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Wasiu Abiodun, spokesperson of the command, confirmed to Peoples Gazette on Monday that a fight broke out between the suspect, Jafar Musa, and Mr Simion at the party held within the school premises.
“On April 5 at about 1.40 am, it was reported at A Division, Kontagora, that during a party organised by the students for the newly admitted students, there was a misunderstanding.
“The faceoff between the 18-year-old Jafar Musa of the Angwan-Gwari area of Kontagora and Seyi Simon, who is a student of the school, led to a fight between the duo,” he said.
Mr Abiodun said the suspect has been arrested for further investigation.
