WASHINGTON

US intelligence warned days after the US-Israeli war on Iran began that the conflict could widen, citing indications Russia and China were moving to support Tehran, CBS News reported Thursday.

Analysts at the Pentagon’s Defense Intelligence Agency assessed that China was considering supplying Iran with advanced radar systems, US officials told CBS News.

Officials said the systems under consideration included X-band radar technology that could improve Iran’s ability to detect low-flying drones and cruise missiles and strengthen its air defenses against advanced strikes.

It was not immediately clear whether any transfer had taken place, but the assessment reflected growing US concern that the conflict could draw in global powers offering indirect military support, the report said.

US officials also said Russia had shared intelligence on American military positions in the Middle East.

The US and Israel launched strikes on Iran on Feb. 28, prompting retaliatory attacks and escalating regional tensions.

Efforts to stabilize the situation and pursue a lasting ceasefire are reportedly ongoing.
