Former power minister Adebayo Adelabu has explained that his ambition to run for the governorship of Oyo state next year on the platform of the All Progressives Congress is based on his readiness to serve.

Mr Adelabu disclosed this to journalists on Thursday, after he was received by supporters at the Alakia Airport, Ibadan, and subsequently moved to his Adebayo Adelabu Foundation office in Jericho.

Mr Adelabu said, “The singular reason for my resignation is to come back and plead for the opportunity to represent our party as the guber candidate in the 2027 general election. That is the only reason why I resigned.

“This is not my first time taking such a risk because it is what I believe in, and I’m ready to satisfy anything to ensure that I get to that position of representing our party and of winning the election; that is the only reason why I resigned.”

He said, “Secondly, I’m believing in God, party members, party leaders and entire people of Oyo state, that I’m going to secure the ticket to represent our party as the guber candidate and proceed to win the general election insha Allah, because God sees my heart, plan and resolve to serve humanity, the people of Oyo state, and to give my best to ensure that Oyo state regains a status as the pacesetter state, that infrastructure development in Oyo state is given top priority, that the prosperity of our people of Oyo state will be assured during my reign and to ensure that the security, fiscal and social infrastructure of Oyo state will attain its optimal status during my reign.

“This is what I’ve prepared for in the last 12 years, since 2014, 2015, before my election in 2019 and my election in 2023. Once we resume, we’re going to hit the ground running.”

The ex-minister ran unsuccessfully for governor in 2019 as an APC candidate and again in 2023 as an Accord Party standard-bearer.
