Teachers in Oyo State have again staged a protest demanding the release of the teachers and pupils abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area.
The Peoples Gazette gathered that the protesters, identified as the Oyo State Teachers Action Group, gathered at Iwo Road, Ibadan, before marching through the Agodi-Gate area toward the Oyo State secretariat.
Footage of the demonstration obtained by The Gazette showed the protesters chanting, “No more kidnapping; Bring back our children; No more bandits,” while singing solidarity songs.
The protest followed the abduction of several pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on Friday, May 15.
A similar protest was held on Monday, May 18, in Ogbomosho, where several teachers, armed with placards, urged the federal government, Governor Seyi Makinde and relevant security agencies to ensure the swift release of the victims.
Meanwhile, Mr Makinde, in a statement on Wednesday, May 27, assured the public and residents of the state that the abducted pupils and teachers would soon be rescued.
“We’re working around the clock to ensure the abducted children are united with their families. I pray that God Almighty consoles those in despair at their point of need,” the governor said.
