The inspector-general of police, Tunji Disu, has ordered the police command in Katsina to strengthen security around schools across the state.

The deputy inspector general of police (Department of Finance and Administration), Sulaiman Abdul, conveyed the mandate from Mr Disu during a two-day operational tour of Katsina, where he assessed the security architecture of selected educational institutions.

The police were directed to deploy and coordinate patrols to safeguard schools across the region.

“The command is ordered to intensify patrols, strengthen intelligence gathering and maintain high police visibility around educational institutions to prevent violent crimes and guarantee a safe environment for teaching and learning,” he said.

During the tour, the DIG visited the Police Children School and the Government Girls Technical and Commercial College in Charanchi LGA.

Mr Abdul inspected the perimeter fencing, access control points, security posts, and the deployment of police personnel to evaluate the existing security measures at the schools.

The DIG also held separate meetings with the schools’ management to obtain firsthand information about their security challenges.

He urged the administrators to enforce strict access controls and promptly report suspicious activity within and around their school premises to security agencies.
