Seeking greener pastures abroad (japa) is modern-day slavery, says President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Specifically, a presidential spokesman, Daniel Bwala, on the Morayo Show on YouTube on Wednesday, said, “Let me tell you that some of you in Nigeria who think you are suffering, you are better off than your colleagues who japa’d five years ago.
“A Nigerian who had a first class moves to the UK, adds another degree. Do you know where the majority of them are working? Care homes. As far as I am concerned, it’s modern-day slavery.”
The presidential spokesman noted that the jobs Nigerians “do are less than that of a house girl as a master’s holder”.
Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God prophesied that many Nigerians who fled the country for greener pastures will return home this year.
Mr Adeboye who stated this at the RCCG annual crossover service held at the church’s camp in Ogun State, said the wind of change that began in 2024 would continue to blow even more strongly in 2026, ushering in increased opportunities and victories for individuals and nations.
The cleric added that there would be reduction in hunger, including blossoming of small and medium enterprises.
“Many who japa will come back home,” Mr Adeboye declared.
