Troops of Sector 4, Operation Udo Ka, raided a criminal hideout in the Awara waterside community during an operation in the Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Rivers State, and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition.
The Nigerian Army disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, noting that the operation, conducted in the early hours of Thursday, targeted a suspected criminal hideout along the Omoku–Ogbaku–Ndoni axis.
“Acting on credible intelligence, the troops raided the forest enclave believed to have been used by criminals as a staging base for planning kidnappings and launching attacks against security personnel and innocent citizens,” it said.
The army said troops recovered one Lee-Enfield MK I rifle, one G3 rifle, 116 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition and 13 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition during the operation.
It further stated that the operation is still ongoing to clear the general area of all forms of criminality.
