The police command in Oyo State has apprehended two armed robbery suspects who invaded a house in an estate in Ibadan and dispossessed the victim of his belongings.

One of the suspects, Taofeek Salawudeen, in a video uploaded by Oyo Affairs, spoke during their parade at the police command in Eleyele area of Ibadan.

He confessed that he participated in the alleged robbery operation.

Mr Salawudeen stated that the gang previously operated in areas such as Alakia and Oluyoro in the Ibadan metropolis.

The suspect confessed that they stole phones and N1.5 million during the operation, adding that the money was transferred through the victim’s mobile app to another member of the group based in Lagos State.

Mr Salawudeen stated, “My name is Taofeek Salawudeen. We committed an armed robbery. The guns before us are ours. We have operated in two locations. One in Alakia, the other in Oluyoro.

“We stole phones and collected N1.5 million transferred from the victim’s phone. The money was sent to Alapa, another member of the gang in Lagos,” he said.

Another member of the gang, Afeez Akinpelu, said he and gang members scaled the fence of the victim’s house to gain access to the house, adding that a member of the gang who knew the neighbourhood gave them the information.

Mr Akinpelu stated that the operation lasted about six hours between 11:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.

“I am Afeez Akinpelu. Armed robbery brought me here (police command.) We went to rob at Alakia and Ireakari Estate. One of us here was familiar with the community and took us there. He said there were good houses to rob in the area,” Mr Akinpelu said.

“We scaled a fence to access the house. We ate the victim’s bush meat and drank Hennessy. We were there from 11:30 p.m till after 5: 00 a.m, because the person familiar with the environment among us said the community’s gate will be opened by 5:00 a.m. We waited until the guards opened the gate at the time and left,” he said.

Mr Akinpelu said the police apprehended him and his colleague at a hotel where they were enjoying themselves after another operation.

The unnamed victim who also spoke during the parade stated that the suspects collected his phones, transferred money from his account and ate spiced bushmeat.

He added that the suspects went to his bar, drank from a bottle of Hennessy and subsequently took his 2017 Hyundai car along when they left in the morning.

“It was barely three days to Ileya. When they entered, they collected my phones and transferred money from my account,” the victim said.

He added, “They went to my kitchen and ate bush meat. They went to the bar and took Henessey. When they were leaving, they took my Hyundai 2017 car.”
