Governor Uba Sani has been commended for proposing the Kaduna State Religious Commission, which will benefit adherents of all religions and their various sects.

The chairman of Fityanul-Islam, Sheikh Rabiu Abdullahu Zaria, who disclosed this during the annual Maulid Nabiyyi celebrations at Murtala Mohammed Square on Tuesday, said the governor has supported religious activities since he assumed office.

Sheikh Rabiu further said that Mr Sani has never turned down Fityanul-Islam’s requests, adding that adherents of the two major religions have never had a more supportive governor than him.

The Islamic cleric promised that Fityanul-Islam will reciprocate the governor’s kind gestures because ‘’we will not vote for someone who hates us, someone who will prevent us from celebrating Maulid, or someone who will arrest our Qur’anic pupils.’’

The chairman of Fityanul-Islam vowed that, God willing, the governor will complete his first term victoriously, secure a second term, and ascend to a higher position afterwards.

Sheikh Rabiu, who prayed for God’s guidance, promised that next May, ‘’we will all be gathered here at Murtala Muhammed Square to celebrate your victory at the polls.’’

Speaking at the event, Mr Sani said the Maulid celebration is a time for people to reflect on and emulate the exemplary character of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

‘’We are all gathered here today to emulate the prophet and his lifestyle. We are all aware that he embraced everyone, irrespective of religion and ethnicity. This is the significance of this gathering,’’ he said.

According to the governor, ‘’if we emulate the teachings and the lifestyle of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), we will live peacefully as a society and a nation at large.’’

He recalled that when the Prophet (SAW) migrated from Makkah to Madina, he governed inclusively, regardless of whether people were Muslims or Christians.

‘’As leaders today, the only thing that we can do is to emulate the teachings and lifestyle of the prophet. That is why I commend the leadership of Fityanul-Islam Kaduna State branch for this important gathering.

‘’And as a government, we will continue to give them the support, working closely with the Kaduna State government to ensure peace and stability. Today, Kaduna State has achieved a modest peace and tranquillity in the whole of Nigeria because we embraced everyone, irrespective of religion and tribe.

‘’In this gathering, there are people of different faiths here; some are Muslims, and others are Christians. This is because in Kaduna, we don’t judge you by your religion but by your character,’’ he added.

Mr Sani pointed out that this approach to governance has been having a positive outcome, adding that ‘’I am happy today that we are living peacefully and in harmony.’’
