FCT minister Nyesom Wike has expressed concern about what may befall him if his principal, President Bola Tinubu, loses the 2027 presidential election.

The former Rivers governor claimed that former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi would “come for my head” if Mr Tinubu was defeated in the presidential poll.

Messrs Abubakar and Obi are running for president. Mr Abubakar is seeking the presidency on the platform of the African Democratic Congress, while Mr Obi is pursuing his presidential ambition on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress.

The duo were once allies, running as presidential and vice-presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2019 election.

Mr Wike expressed his fear in an interview on Wednesday.

“If anything happens and Mr President fails today, I will be the first politician that Atiku and Obi will hunt for his head. I won’t make that mistake of sleeping while the president loses the election, no, because I know they will come for my head,” Mr Wike said.

The FCT minister said he would not fold his arms and watch Mr Abubakar or Obi defeat Mr Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

As part of his efforts to ensure Mr Tinubu’s re-election, Mr Wike said he influenced Governor Ademola Adeleke to endorse the president after he won the August 15 Osun governorship election.

“After that election, go ask Adeleke. I called him from Croatia. I said you told me you will support Mr President. He said yes. Now you have won, issue a statement that you will still support Mr President and thank him for a free and fair election,” stated Mr Wike. “I did that. I also told him when you receive your certificate of return, take it to the president.”
