Governor Francis Nwifuru says women remain critical drivers of economic growth, good governance, peace and sustainable development in Ebonyi.
Mr Nwifuru stated this on Wednesday at the grand finale of the 2026 Ebonyi Women August Meeting in Abakaliki.
Represented by his deputy, Patricia Obila, Nwifuru said his administration recognised women’s indispensable contributions to Ebonyi’s development.
He reaffirmed commitment to policies and programmes designed to empower women, promote gender equity and create more opportunities across the state.
“I pray this year’s August meeting inspires great collaboration, deeper understanding and renewed strength to drive sustainable development across the state,” he said.
Uzoamaka Nwifuru, the governor’s wife, urged women to translate their resilience into stronger commitment to development, peace-building and family values. She also encouraged women to champion social progress while appreciating the administration for recognising their contributions to the state’s development.
Mrs Nwifuru urged the 52 market women who received financial assistance to deploy the empowerment effectively and improve their livelihoods.
Works minister David Umahi, represented by Augustine Umahi, commended the Ebonyi government for increasing women’s participation in governance.
Mr Umahi urged the women to sustain their solidarity and support for the administration’s development programmes.
Grace Umezuruike, secretary to the state government, described women as exceptionally resourceful and indispensable to the state’s progress.
Felicia Nwakpuma, the commissioner for women affairs and social development, said the government remained committed to advancing women’s welfare, empowerment and development. She said the ministry, in collaboration with the governor’s wife’s pet project, would continue supporting women and vulnerable groups.
Ngozi Obichukwu, the commissioner for special projects, described women as homebuilders and appreciated Nwifuru for appointing women to sensitive positions.
Chinwe Okah, the commissioner for budget and planning, also praised the governor’s inclusion of women in governance and pledged their support. She assured the administration of women’s support during the 2027 elections.
Victoria Ogodo, speaking on behalf of beneficiaries, thanked Mr Nwifuru and his wife for the financial assistance and support.
