The United States Consulate will support 100 primary and secondary school teachers in Oyo through a capacity development project titled ‘Ibadandun’, aimed at introducing fun and interactive teaching methods to the selected teachers.

Addressing the teachers in Ibadan, the U.S. Consulate public affairs officer, Stephen Ibelli, spoke on the programme, particularly how it will improve student performance.

In a statement released by the consulate, Mr Ibelli said, “The U.S. Mission is fully committed to supporting a more educated population by increasing and strengthening the capacity of Nigerian teachers.

Teachers who use innovative pedagogy and interactive assessment techniques enliven the teaching-learning process for their students.

Students who have effective and engaged teachers tend to perform far better than their peers.”

Drawn from communities across Oyo state, the teachers would go through teaching methods to enhance the student’s performance in numeracy, literacy and school attendance.

The programme, set to run for a year, is supported by Five Cowries Arts Education Initiative, 1 Million Teachers Incorporated and the American Corner Ibadan and is in partnership with the alumni of U.S. government exchange programs.

The workshop aims to integrate a range of activities and teach the participants an understanding of new approaches to improve classroom instruction and student’s learning.
