Siminalayi Fubara
Prominent among governors who will not return to Government House in 2027 is Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers, after a first term rocked by hostility with his godfather, Nyesom Wike. Though qualified for re-election as a first-term governor, Mr Fubara opted out of his All Progressives Congress party primaries, ending his governorship ambition.
Babajide Sanwo-Olu
After serving out his constitutionally allowed two terms, Mr Sanwo-Olu would have spent eight years in the saddle. Unlike his contemporaries gunning for the Senate, Mr Sanwo-Olu has not announced his next political move.
Seyi Makinde
Governor Seyi Makinde will not be returning to the Oyo state Government House after completing his second tenure as governor on May 29, 2027. Mr Makinde, who has defected from the PDP to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), has thrown his hat in the ring for the presidential election in 2027.
Dapo Abiodun
Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun will serve out his two-term tenure of eight years and will not return to the Government House after the 2027 elections. However, he has bagged the APC senatorial ticket and could end up in the Senate once his governorship tenure elapses.
Babagana Zulum
Governor Babagana Zulum is in the last lap of his term in Borno and will complete his constitutionally allowed two terms in 2027, so he will not return to Government House.
Mai Mala Buni
Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe will complete his second term on May 29 and hand over to a successor. He has his eyes on the Senate. To achieve his ambition, he has clinched the APC senatorial ticket for Yobe East senatorial district.
AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s tenure ends in May 2027. Mr AbdulRazaq, however, is gunning for the Kwara North senatorial district.
Muhammadu Yahaya
Governor Muhammadu Yahaya will say goodbye to Gombe Government House in 2027. However, Mr Yahaya has clinched the APC senatorial ticket, gunning to represent Gombe North Senatorial District in the Senate in 2027.
Abdullahi Sule
With his last year in office ending in May 2027, Governor Abdullahi Sule is gradually taking his eyes off the Nasarawa Government House and setting them on the Red Chamber. Mr Sule will be contesting the Nasarawa North senatorial district seat in 2027.
Ahmadu Fintiri
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri is rounding up his second term in office. Like Mr Sule, Mr Fintiri is eyeing a seat in the Senate via the Adamawa North senatorial district.
Bala Mohammed
Governor Bala Mohammed will serve out his second term in office by May 29, 2027. Upon defecting from the PDP to the APM, Mr Mohammed is contesting the Bauchi South senatorial district seat.
