The National Emergency Management Agency has assessed the impact of flooding on a community of persons with disabilities in Dakwa, Abuja Municipal Area Council.
The agency said, in a statement, that officials from NEMA’s Abuja operations office conducted the assessment on Tuesday to determine the extent of flood damage and identify the immediate needs of affected residents.
It stated that during the exercise, the assessment team interacted with community members and inspected affected residential structures, personal belongings, and other essential facilities.
“The team also documented reported losses and gathered information on the conditions of the affected households.
“The assessment paid particular attention to the additional challenges faced by persons with disabilities during emergencies, including mobility constraints and difficulties accessing assistance,” the statement said.
It added that the information gathered is expected to support a better understanding of their specific needs as response efforts are considered.
NEMA officials urged residents in flood-prone areas to stay alert to early warning information and take appropriate precautions to reduce the impact of flooding.
