The Peoples Democratic Party-led Rainbow Coalition in Bayelsa State has unveiled its campaign timetable for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, pledging to mobilise grassroots support across the state.
The PDP Publicity Secretary , Ikaebimo Mark, unveiled the timetable before journalists on Wednesday.
The schedule provides three days of fasting and prayers from November 5 to 7, ahead of a campaign dedication and thanksgiving service on November 8.
The inauguration of the Bayelsa Rainbow Coalition Council is scheduled for November 9.
Mobilisation and distribution of campaign materials, including T-shirts, face caps and banners, will take place from November 10 to 15.
The coalition will hold campaign flag-off ceremonies and present its flags to candidates across Bayelsa’s three senatorial districts from November 17 to 21.
The timetable fixes December 12 for the grand finale, formal adoption and endorsement of Mr Tinubu as the coalition’s presidential candidate.
The Bayelsa PDP Chairman, George Turnah, said the coalition would leverage the party’s grassroots support to mobilise votes for Mr Tinubu and its candidates.
Mr Turnah described the integration of the National Rainbow Coalition into Mr Tinubu’s re-election campaign as a strategic move capable of attracting support across party lines.
He said the coalition would highlight the benefits of the President’s development agenda, particularly projects executed by the Niger Delta Development Commission in Bayelsa State.
According to him, the coalition will mobilise members across the state’s 105 wards to secure substantial votes for Mr Tinubu.
Mr Turnah said the PDP’s grassroots appeal would strengthen the President’s re-election prospects, adding that the coalition was taking the lead in the campaign.
He warned that leaving Mr Tinubu’s re-election campaign entirely in the hands of the state APC leadership would be risky.
Mr Turnah claimed that the APC leadership lacked sufficient grassroots appeal in some communities, making the coalition’s involvement crucial to the President’s electoral prospects.
He urged APC leaders to regard the Rainbow Coalition as a partner rather than a rival in the effort to secure Mr Tinubu’s victory.
Mr Turnah also called on the party to collaborate with the coalition to mobilise voters and defeat opposition parties in the state.
He linked the coalition’s role to Mr Tinubu’s confidence in its national leader and patron, Nyesom Wike.
Mr Turnah noted that Mr Wike was appointed coordinator of the President’s campaign in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory.
