Simon Stiell, the Executive Secretary of UN Climate Change, has urged all countries to agree on outcomes on all key issues during the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) taking place in Belem, Brazil.

‎In a statement issued in Belem on Sunday, Mr Steill further urged countries to be fully ready for climate cooperation.

‎According to him, COP30, which begins on Monday and concludes on November 21, must accelerate the implementation of the Paris Agreement across all sectors.

‎”Also, COP30 must connect climate action to people’s real lives – to help spread its benefits: stronger growth, more jobs, less pollution and better health, more affordable and secure energy.

‎”The Paris Agreement is delivering real progress, but we must accelerate in the Amazon. Devastating climate damages are happening already, from Hurricane Melissa hitting the Caribbean.

‎‎”Super typhoons smashing Vietnam and the Philippines, to a tornado ripping through Southern Brazil. So, let’s get on with the job,” he added.

‎‎According to Mr Stiell, COP30 will be his fourth since assuming office.

‎COP30, the Conference of the Parties, is an annual gathering of countries to negotiate and make decisions on climate change.

‎The conference is being held in the Amazon region and will focus on issues such as forest preservation, biodiversity, and the progress of climate action since the Paris Agreement.
