The Adamawa assembly is to transmit a bill for a law to provide mandatory drug tests for applicants for appointment, employment and school admission.

The Adamawa House of Assembly is to transmit a bill for a law to provide mandatory drug, alcohol and other illicit substance testing for applicants for the appointment, employment and school admission.

After deliberations, observations and recommendations on the report on Friday, speaker Aminu Abbas who presided over the session, put the motion to that effect into a voice vote in which members present unanimously gave their consent.

He directed the chairman of the house committee on rules, business, ethics and privileges to schedule the bill for the third reading during any convenient legislative sitting.

Mr Abbas directed that the bill should be forwarded to Governor Ahmadu Fintiri for assent.

The bill was presented by Kabiru Mijinyawa (APC) at the plenary in Yola. The bill, if assented to, will provide compulsory hard drug testing for applicants into state educational and public institutions and other matters.

A motion supporting the bill’s speedy passage was presented by the deputy majority leader of the house, Mr Japhet Kefas, representing the Gombi constituency.

The bill is tagged ‘A Bill for a Law to provide for mandatory drugs, alcohol and other illicit substances on applicants for appointments, employment and admission into educational and public institutions.’
