Governor Ahmadu Fintiri on Friday defected to the All Progressives Congress after dumping the Peoples Democratic Party.

Mr Fintiri, who announced his defection in a live TV broadcast, said the move was aimed at advancing the developmental agenda and the interests of the people of Adamawa State.

He added that his decision was driven by a need to fast-track development and act in the best interest of the people of the state.

Fifteen lawmakers at the Adamawa State House of Assembly had earlier defected from the PDP to the APC during the week.

These include Bathiya Wesley, the speaker of the house, and Buba Jijiwa, his deputy, both of whom resigned from the PDP.

The lawmakers attributed their defections to the PDP’s internal crisis.

With Mr Fintiri’s defection to the APC, the PDP now has only three governors (Seyi Makinde, Bala Mohammed, and Dauda Lawal).
