Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, has boasted that the newly launched African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition would defeat Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027, even if the president decides to appoint his family members to key positions to manipulate election results.

“I promise President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, even if the 36 state governors defect to APC and he appoints Seyi Tinubu as the chairman of INEC, maybe he would appoint his wife as the Chief Justice of Nigeria and INEC would be last institution to decamp to the APC, they are going to be defeated in 2027 because it is we versus them,” Mr Dalung said in an interview aired on News Central on Saturday.

The erstwhile minister lamented unprecedented corruption, impunity and injustice under Mr Tinubu, accusing the ruling APC of declaring war against the Nigerian people and weaponising poverty in the country.

“Nigerians should buckle up in 2027 because the battle line has been drawn by the government of Bola Tinubu, who has declared war against the Nigerian people.

“The government has weaponised poverty, hunger and hardship and popularised corruption, impunity and injustice,” Mr Dalung stated.

The politician urged Nigerians to align with the coalition movement, insisting the party remains the viable option for them to reposition the country and confront the ruling party in 2027.

“The only option we have now is to align with the coalition movement to reposition ourselves and confront the government in 2027,” Mr Dalung added.

Miffed by the way the APC-led government ran the country, key opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-governors Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, Nasir El-Rufai, Rauf Aregbesola, and others, had activated full-blown plans to wrestle power from Mr Tinubu in 2027.

Last week, they formally announced the adoption of ADC as the platform to challenge the ruling party, appointing former Senate President David Mark and Mr Aregbesola as the interim national chairman and secretary, respectively.
