MYAGDI, Nepal – In Myagdi, many pigs have died from African Swine Fever.

More than 300 pigs have died due to the infection in Beni and rural areas of the district, according to the Veterinary Hospital and Animal Expert Center Myagdi.

According to the center’s chief, Jeevan Prasad Acharya, African swine fever was confirmed in samples taken from some farms. The first case of African swine fever was discovered in a pig farm in Annapurna rural municipality 2.

Acharya stated that while there is no complete cure for this disease, it can be reduced through pig vaccination. It does, however, have an impact on humans.

According to the Animal Services Branch of Beni Municipality, 250 pigs died in Mangalaghat, Beni Municipality-7.

Meanwhile, pig farmers have called for an education campaign to combat the disease in the district.

The Veterinary Hospital and Animal Expert Center have asked farmers to separate suspected animals from the herd and notify the center as soon as possible while disposing of dead animals in pits.
