Aisha Buhari, wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, has charged female participants at a security seminar to use the knowledge acquired to address the country’s security challenges.

Mrs Buhari said she was hopeful that the 10-month training had equipped them “with relevant knowledge and experience needed to tackle the current security situation in the country.”

The first lady was speaking at the graduation ceremony for the Executive Intelligence Management Course 14 of the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS) held at the Lower Usuma Dam in Bwari, Abuja.

Mrs Buhari applauded the tenacity, courage and commitment of the female participants in their quest to contribute their quota towards ensuring sustainable peace and security in the country.

She, therefore, urged them to sustain the tempo and use the knowledge acquired to ensure the peaceful co-existence of their immediate society.

Mrs Buhari urged the institute to always promote the culture of gender equality as well as equal opportunities for men and women in terms of admissions.

On his part, DG of the State Security Service, Yusuf Bichi, said the institute would continue to provide strategic studies for participants to deliver on their mandate.

Also speaking, chairperson of the Nigerian Governors Wives Forum, Bisi Fayemi, said female participants at the seminar means there’ll be “more women on the table when critical decisions around security are being made.”

According to her, “They would be able to take required steps to ensure that gender issues are also of security concern.”
