The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has dissolved the Onikan Tactical Squad over an alleged extortion of N3 million from a motorist driving with a friend towards Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge.
The command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement on Friday, said Mr Jimoh also placed the operatives on an orderly room trial after interrogating them and meeting the victim, simply identified as Boluwatife, with username @Tife_badass, on X.
Mr Hundeyin wrote, “The Commissioner of Police @LagosPoliceNG, CP Olohundare Jimoh, today met with the complainant @Tife_badass and interrogated the entire team involved in the incident. The team has been placed on an orderly room trial, and the CP has ordered its immediate dissolution. Outcome of the trial will be made public.”
Mr Boluwatife on Thursday alleged that the officers, after wrongly accusing him of killing policemen in Lekki, handcuffed and bundled him and his friend into a police vehicle and drove them to the station in Onikan.
He also stated that despite finding nothing incriminating in his vehicle and checking his papers, the officers allegedly demanded N3 million which he refused to pay but later agreed to pay N500,000, for his release.
According to him, his agreement was after they threatened to shoot him and also forge documents to tag him a fraudster and cultist.
