The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said President Bola Tinubu’s approval of new ambassadors marks a decisive step toward reasserting Nigeria’s influence on the global stage.
In a statement by the party’s spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, on Saturday, the ruling party said the appointments reflected a foreign-policy shift from what it described as years of hesitation to a new era of “strategic, assertive diplomacy.”
Mr Oladejo said the envoys represent “a carefully selected mix of experience and patriotism,” adding that their deployment signalled the administration’s plan to project confidence and clarity in Nigeria’s international engagement.
According to him, the newly appointed diplomats are expected to defend Nigeria’s interests abroad, build stronger bilateral ties, counter damaging global narratives about the country, and pursue economic and security opportunities beneficial to citizens.
“The world will no longer engage a hesitant or reactive Nigeria, but one fully ready to assert itself with dignity and strategic foresight,” the statement said.
Mr Oladejo argued that domestic reforms undertaken by the Tinubu administration in security, economy, and governance would serve as the foundation of a more coherent and proactive foreign policy agenda.
He added that the country was now better positioned to reclaim leadership roles in regional and continental bodies such as ECOWAS and the African Union.
The APC listed key priorities the ambassadors were expected to advance, including strengthening counter-terrorism partnerships, expanding economic diplomacy, championing energy transition policies that align with national interest, and improving protection for Nigerians living abroad.
“For years, Nigeria’s global reputation was diminished by inconsistency and lack of direction,” Mr Oladejo said. “Today, the nation steps forward with a unified message and a leadership that understands the weight of its international responsibility.”
He expressed confidence that the ambassadors would enhance the country’s standing internationally and help secure political, economic, and strategic gains.
“The era of timid foreign policy is over. Nigeria is rising again — deliberately, confidently, and irreversibly,” he said.
The ambassadors await confirmation by the Senate, and deployment following the president’s approval.
