Godwin Robinson, the Anglican Diocese Bishop of Lafia, has called on the federal government to initiate people-centred policies, particularly those that would mitigate the current hardship in the nation.

The bishop made the call on Saturday at an event to commemorate the silver jubilee of the diocese at the St James Cathedral in Lafia.

Mr Robinson decried the current hardship in the nation, particularly the daily increase in the prices of goods and services, the security challenges, and moral bankruptcy, among others.

The bishop, who said that the government had promised to improve people’s welfare during campaigns, advised the government to desist from introducing policies that would inflict more hardship on the people.

The cleric commended the government’s efforts to tackle the security challenges but called for concerted efforts to improve the economy.

On the silver jubilee celebration, the bishop said the diocese had made tremendous progress within the 25 years of its existence.

The bishop said the church had numerous reasons to thank God for the progress recorded in the last 25 years and tasked members and Nigerians to regularly show gratitude to God.

Speaking, Emmanuel Nyitsse, the Anglican bishop of Gboko in Benue,  said some successes were made in addressing insecurity but appealed to the citizens to support the government toward achieving lasting peace.

Mr Nyitsse, who decried that the security challenges in the country had affected the church, particularly in the northern part, prayed to God to provide President Bola Tinubu with the resources needed to cater to the needs of Nigerians.
