Atrain conveying passengers from Abuja to Kaduna derailed on Friday near the nation’s capital, leaving the occupants stranded for several hours, Peoples Gazette learnt.

The incident came barely days after an Itakpe-Warri line derailed inside a forest in Kogi.

The Gazette could not immediately ascertain the main cause of the derailment but it was gathered that the incident caused a scare among the passengers.

The Abuja-Kaduna train, it was gathered, derailed in the Abuja suburb of Kubwa on Friday afternoon.

Fidet Okhiria, Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), confirmed the incident but could not immediately give details.

Mr Okhiria explained that NRC would soon officially speak on the cause of the incident after poor briefing and investigation.

On January 22, the Warri-bound train with 143 passengers slightly went off the rail track, causing panic.

Although, the occupants were late evacuated.

The NRC claimed it suspected vandalism as the cause of the derailment.

The train service was later shut down for repair work.
