Former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has warned that officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) who fail to count votes belonging to his political party during the forthcoming 2027 general elections will be counted.
The Anambra politician made this known while addressing a crowd in Akwa Ibom State on Saturday.
“In the upcoming election in 2027, anybody who refuses to count our vote, we will count the person join. Anybody who refused to count our votes in 2027, we will count him,” said Mr Obi, who joined the African Democratic Congress in 2025. However, he did not clarify what he meant by “count.”
INEC, on Saturday, released the timetable for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections, as well as the governorship and State Assembly elections.
The official timetable released by INEC outlined dates for campaigns, voters’ registration, political parties’ primary elections, and the general elections.
The electoral body announced that Continuous Voters’ Registration (CVR) will commence in April 2026 and conclude in January 2027, giving eligible voters ample time to register or update their voter information.
Political parties are expected to conduct their primaries between July 1 and September 30, 2026, after which they must submit their lists of candidates to the commission between October 1 and October 31, 2026.
The final list of candidates will be published on November 15, 2026.
Campaigns for the presidential and national assembly elections will run from November 18, 2026 to February 19, 2027, while the presidential election will hold on February 20, 2027.
Also, campaigns for the governorship and state assembly elections will commence on December 15, 2026, and end on March 5, 2027, while the state elections will hold on March 6, 2027.
