Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman is on the verge of joining Atletico Madrid after the La Liga side agreed to a €40 million deal with Atalanta to sign the player.

The 28-year-old was captured by Sky Sports arriving at the airport on Sunday as he heads to Madrid for his medicals following permission from Atalanta.

According to football journalist Fabrizio Romano, both Atletico Madrid and Atalanta reached negotiations on a €35 million fixed fee and €5 million in add-ons to buy Lookman late on Saturday.
This came days after unsuccessful talks between Fenerbahçe and Atalanta on a transfer fee despite a personal terms agreement with the former Fulham player.

Reports noted that Lookman accepted the salary and playing packages offered by Atletico Madrid following an extensive phone call with the club’s manager, Diego Simeone.

He will become the first Nigerian player to feature for the Atletico Madrid senior team once the transfer is completed.
