Israeli forces on Tuesday bombed Iran Supreme Council as remnants of Islamic Republic gathered to elect a new leader following the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The meeting is Assembly of Experts, which has 88 members. It was taking place in Qom before it was targeted.
Trey Yingst, Fox News’ reporter, in a post on X, reported that “Israel struck (gathering of Iranian officilas) while they were counting the votes for the appointment of the supreme leader.”
“The Israelis just struck the meeting of the Iranian Supreme Council where officials were gathering to choose a new Supreme Leader, Mr Yingst said.
This development further disrupts Iran’s plan to replace its slain Supreme Leader after first day strike of “Operation Epic Fury” launched by U.S. and Israel forces on Saturday killed Mr Khamenei.
At least 40 members of Mr Khamenei’s regime were killed in airstrikes at the weekend.
Mr Trump attributed Saturday’s attack to Iran’s nuclear weapons, saying America would never allow Iran own nuclear weapons.
Meanwhile, Iran fired several missiles at U.S. bases in Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia, after the U.S. and Israel launched deadly airstrikes.
