‘Indiscriminately killing civilians, killing children against international law,’ says Petra De Sutter

ISTANBUL

Belgium’s Deputy Prime Minister Petra De Sutter on Monday said that she was “horrified” by the Israeli airstrike on a refugee camp in Rafah, a city in the southern Gaza Strip.

“Horrified by the air strike attack on #UNRWA refugee tent camp in Rafah,” De Sutter wrote on X.

Highlighting that indiscriminate killing of civilians, including children is “against international law” and “severely” violates the International Court of Justice (ICJ)’s order to halt the Rafah offensive, she said: “We must bring these war crimes to a full stop.”

At least 35 people were killed and dozens injured as Israel targeted a camp for displaced people and houses in the southern Gaza city of Rafah on Sunday, said medical sources and officials.

The attack occurred near the logistics base of the UN Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) in Tal al-Sultan, said the Gaza Media Office.

The attack came despite a ruling by the ICJ that ordered Israel to halt its offensive in Rafah, where over a million Palestinians have sought refuge.

Israel has killed nearly 36,000 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip since a cross-border attack by Hamas on Oct. 7 last year.
