Former President Muhammadu Buhari says recent killings by Boko Haram in Yobe show communities have more work to do to overcome terrorism and insecurity in the country.

The former president said this on Wednesday in a condolence message issued by his spokesman, Garba Shehu.

The former president decried the recent terrorist attack on Yobe that led to the loss of several lives, saying that the latest incident was a “dreadful reminder that communities supported by governments have more work to do in curbing the menace of the terrorists.”

Mr Buhari prayed for the repose of those killed and called “for strict response to those who commit these monstrous acts.”

Dozens of people were killed as Boko Haram attacked Mafa village in Yobe on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Yobe government on Tuesday announced the donation of N30 million to the families of the victims of the insurgent attack.

Deputy Governor Idi Gubana made the announcement when he led a delegation to Babangida, the headquarters of Tarmuwa, for the funeral of the slain villagers. He sympathised with the Emir of Jajere, Mai Buba Mashio, and the residents.

Mr Gubana directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to provide shelter and food to the displaced persons who lost all their belongings due to the attack.

He stated that Governor Mai Mala Buni, who was devastated by the killings, had met the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, over sustainable security in Mafa.

The deputy governor noted that deploying sufficient troops in Mafa at the border of Borno and Yobe would prevent future attacks in the trade hub.
