Outstanding beneficiaries would be rewarded with a four-year scholarship for further studies in Brazil with monthly allowance.

The Brazilian Descendants Association in Lagos (BDA) has partnered with the Brazilian Embassy in Nigeria to train no fewer than 50 Nigerians to speak portuguese.

Taiwo Salvador, Education Research Director, BDA, during the class session at Holy Cross Primary School, Lagos, on Saturday, praised the comprehension rate of the students.

She appreciated the Consul-General of Brazil to Nigeria, Francisco Soares-Luz, for his commitment toward supporting the programme.

She said 50 Nigerians were currently being trained in Portuguese with the motive to ensure that the language is brought back to the community.

“The level of commitment of these students is massive, it shows that their level of willingness to maximise this opportunity to their advantage is high, which is encouraging.”

The organisers selected 70 per cent from the Brazilian community in Lagos and 30 per cent from all over the state, with people coming from “Ajah, Iyana-Ipaja, Igando, Agege.”

Ms Salvador noted that at the end of the programme, the outstanding beneficiaries would be rewarded with a four-year scholarship for further studies in Brazil with monthly allowance.
