Ethnic crisis in South Eastern Region of Salamat reportedly left over 50 dead and over 40 injured in Chad last week.

President Muhammadu Buhari sent condolence to Chad’s President Idriss Deby Itno on Monday, expressing sadness over the eruption of bloody ethnic crisis in Chad.

Ethnic crisis in South Eastern Region of Salamat reportedly left over 50 dead and over 40 injured in Chad last week.

Mr Buhari, in a statement by his spokesperson Garba Shehu,  said ethnic crisis is a threat to stability and unity in African region.

“I am shocked and saddened by the incident that shattered decades of relative peace and stability in Chad,” Mr Buhari said. “Ethnic and tribal clashes is a threat to African unity and stability and Nigeria joins the rest of Africa to deplore the latest eruption of violence in Chad.”

Though shocked by the development in Chad, brewing hostilities among ethnic groups in Nigeria has been unabating, even eliciting secession threats under the watch of Mr Buhari.

In the South East, Indigenous People of Biafra has reignited calls for secession, while increase insecurity as a result of herdsmen operation has triggered calls for secession in South-West.
