Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has charged his teammates to up their game in Tuesday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup final Group C qualifier clash against the Cheetahs of the Benin Republic.

The 32-year-old Al-Kholood defender gave the charge during the pre-match conference on Monday ahead of the match against the Gernot Rohr-led team at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo.

Mr Ekong said, “This is not a game that I, the coach, or the players can win for us. We need to have a shared responsibility. Everyone has to step up. Everyone has to take responsibility for the game tomorrow.

“Playing in the stadium, I would love to see it full. I think that would be a great encouragement for the team, the support that we need for the moment,” the skipper stated.

Both sides, including Bafana Bafana of South Africa, still have a chance of qualifying for the tournament or at least securing a play-off spot.

The Super Eagles, they need to defeat the Cheetahs by at least a two-goal margin and hope that Bafana Bafana do not beat Rwanda.
