Real Madrid will face Benfica in another UEFA Champions League clash this season following the conclusion of the draw for the playoff phase of the competition on Friday.
Following the epic clash between the two clubs on Wednesday that saw Benfica stunned Real Madrid 4-2 to deny the Spanish side an automatic spot in the round of 16, they are set for another cracker in February.
Sixteen teams are competing in the playoff phase and only eight of them will advance to the last 16 to join Chelsea, Manchester City, Barcelona, Liverpool, Arsenal, Sporting Lisbon, Bayern Munich and Tottenham, which secured automatic qualifications.
The draw conducted in Lyon on Friday also produced other interesting ties, with Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain paired against each other. Galatasaray will face Juventus and Borussia Dortmund are up against Atalanta.
Qarabag will play Newcastle United, Club Brugge tango Atletico Madrid, Bodo/Glimt face Inter Milan while Olympiakos and Bayer Leverkusen will fight each other for one of the eight last 16 spots.
The first leg of the playoff ties will be played on February 17 and 18 while the return legs will take place on February 25 and 26.
