BEIJING, China: President Xi Jinping is set to visit Vietnam on December 12 and 13, where he will engage with top state officials to enhance bilateral relations, as announced by the Chinese foreign ministry this week.

During the visit, discussions will encompass a wide range of topics, including political security, multilateral affairs, maritime issues, and the promotion of deeper strategic cooperation, according to spokesperson Wang Wenbin during a press briefing.

The Vietnamese communist party has also confirmed President Xi’s upcoming visit, signifying the importance both nations attach to strengthening their ties.

In the lead-up to this visit, several high-ranking Chinese leaders have journeyed to Vietnam, highlighting the shared commitment of both countries to reinforce their relationship.

In October, President Xi emphasized to Vietnam’s second-highest ranking official the importance of not forgetting the “original intention” of their enduring friendship.

China and the United States have been actively vying for influence in Southeast Asia, including Vietnam, which recently elevated its relations with Washington to a comprehensive strategic partnership, placing it on par with Beijing and Moscow.

Wang noted, “Since the beginning of this year, (China and Vietnam) have had frequent high-level interactions, close exchanges in various sectors, and continued deepening of cooperation in various fields.”

This deepening cooperation is seen as instrumental in maintaining peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
