Nearly 1,000 civilians killed in fighting between army, paramilitary RSF in Sudan since mid-April, according to medics

KHARTOUM, Sudan

Clashes resumed on Saturday between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group in the capital Khartoum, according to witnesses.

Sounds of artillery shelling and fighting with heavy weapons were reported in south Khartoum and in Bahri, northeast of the capital, witnesses said.

“Military aircraft targeted RSF forces north and south of Khartoum,” an eyewitness told Anadolu.

Violent clashes were also reported in the town of Tawila in North Darfur state.

There were no reports yet of casualties.

Sudan has been ravaged by clashes between the army and the RSF since mid-April. Nearly 1,000 civilians have been killed and thousands injured in the violence, according to local medics.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) estimates that more than 2.2 million people have been displaced by the current conflict in Sudan.
