The Anambra government has awarded contracts worth N43.7 billion for major infrastructure projects in the state, including roads, schools, hospitals, and electricity distribution.

Law Mefor, the Commissioner for Information, stated that the decision was made following the Executive Council meeting in Awka on Tuesday.

He stated that the approval encompassed key projects, including the dualisation of the Ekwulobia-Ufuma road with a bridge, at a cost of N37.95 billion, awarded to Lebtech Construction Company Ltd.

Mr Mefor stated that N1.4 billion was allocated for the construction of the Adili/Park Road spur to the Nnewi building materials market.

“Various smaller contracts for schools, medical equipment, airport VIP lounge, internal premises rehabilitation, and government building upgrades were also awarded,” he said.

He stated that, due to the upcoming governorship election in the state, the government would not initiate any new projects but would instead continue to work on ongoing projects.

Mr Mefor disclosed that the state government had promised not to owe contractors working in the state, which he said was a principle the governor had kept since assuming office.
